Policy Document on Societal Responsibility |
|
The Zambia Centre for Accountancy Studies endeavors to be a good corporate citizen. The Centre acknowledges the support it gets from the Zambian society, which has been contributing to the Centre’s continued success over several years. It is in this light that the Centre would like to recognize this support and share its successes in a little way with some of the less privileged in our society. This shall not only raise the image of the Centre in society, but also touch the hearts of those in dire need and give them hope for the future.
Present Policy
Currently, the Centre is undertaking the following activities towards the same cause:
- Donation of used (but reasonably good) computers to schools and orphanages, churches etc.
- Award of scholarships to academically capable but financially disadvantaged students studying at the Centre. The Centre had to take up this responsibility following the withdrawal of the scholarship scheme by NORAD. The Centre has also been contributing to a permanent fund dedicated for the same purpose. The Centre has achieved its target of K5 billion.
Proposed Policy
The Centre while continuing with the above activities can also consider undertaking the following measures:
- Donate some of old linen, crockery, refurbished desks, chairs etc to adopted schools and orphanages.
- In conjunction with SME organizations like ZCSMBA, corporate and other NGOs help train small and medium enterprises attain their full business. In conjunction with the Citizens Empowerment Commission or any other body working with a similar objective, develop relevant material and undertake business skills programmes at a reduced price.
- Partial sponsorship of any business skills related training, subject to a maximum of K1.5 million per event and K5 million in total per annum.
These can be administered when the Centre is in recess to ensure that there is no disruption to the main business. The above activities if well implemented can be a big marketing tool and can help raise the profile of the Centre as a responsible corporate citizen significantly.
