1.1 Organisational Profile
The Government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ) established the Zambia Centre for Accountancy Studies (ZCAS) through an Act of Parliament No. 1 of 1989 (ZCAS Act) for the purpose of training accountants, promoting research and advancement of learning in accountancy, finance and related studies, providing advisory and consultancy services, and for related matters.
As an integral part of the mandate, the provision of advisory and consulting services has grown extensively. All training and advisory services are provided under the Research, Consultancy and Distance Education Department.

Initially, ZCAS received donor support from the European Union, NORAD and DANIDA. For the last ten years however, ZCAS has been fully self-supporting and reliant on the income received from its training and consulting services. ZCAS has achieved international recognition for the quality of the courses and programmes and the commitment and professionalism of its staff and the consultancy and advisory services provided. The Centre’s product portfolio is twofold.

Despite being a Statutory Institution, ZCAS has managed to sustain its operations without any government grants. This is an excellent record which is indicative of the calibre of management and staff at ZCAS. The Centre is keen to see many more institutions learn from it and become self-sustaining.In 1999, ZCAS moved into its purpose-built accommodation in the centre of Lusaka, easily accessible by road and rail. The Centre recently completed the construction of a massive expansion project worth over US$16m which has increased its capacity by 50% in terms of classrooms, an electronic Resource Centre and a video conferencing facility. The campus has 25 classrooms, seminar rooms, and six air-conditioned and networked computer laboratories with 24 hour internet connectivity, 4 large lecture theatres, self-catering hostel accommodation with 614 beds in both single and shared rooms, a cafeteria, sports and entertainment facilities.
ZCAS has been involved in capacity building activities in many institutions ranging from Government ministries and departments, the private sector, NGOs and donor agencies in the areas of: strategic management, customer services (customer acquisition & retention), financial management, leadership and supervisory skills, development of systems and procedures, accounting and auditing, project management, monitoring, evaluation and reporting, marketing, sales and generally the development and formulation of business plans.

ZCAS has also been involved in designing, developing and delivery of training programmes for various clients such as Barclays Bank, Nkana Water and Sewerage Company, LSA Associates, Ministry of Science, Technology and Vocational Training, Ministry of Finance and National Planning, Office of the Auditor-General, Zambia Revenue Authority, Ministry of Health, Public Pensions Board, Media Trust, Ministry of Education EQUIP2 IIM team, Airtel, MTN, to name but a few.

1.2 Professional Body Accreditations
ZCAS has acquired international recognition for the quality of tuition it provides. It has consistently produced high examination pass rates and currently boasts of carrying the prestigious ACCA ‘Platinum’ status (only one in Zambia). Due to its outstanding reputation as A Centre of Excellence in the Delivery of International Education, ZCAS now attracts students from many countries in the SADC region and beyond. The Centre has in the past years continued to develop the market and will continue to do so by introducing other global educational brands. The Centre is also accredited with CIMA as a Quality Learning Partner, with ZICA as the only Platinum Training Institution in Zambia, with CISCO, NCC, the British Computer Society (BCS) and many others. ZCAS also provides Certified Continuous Professional Development Hours (CPD Hours) for Accountants through the Accounting Executive Development Workshops, which are recognized by ZICA.

The Research, Consultancy and Distance Education Department is a well-established management consultancy unit under ZCAS. It has been developed as a capacity building and strengthening initiative and as a way of consolidating the knowledge of various graduates in various disciplines.
ZCAS has more than 50 permanent professionals cutting across various disciplines. All of them have the minimum of a first degree or a professional qualification ranging from MBAs, MAs and MSc to PhDs with many years of both teaching and industrial experience.

Generally, ZCAS Consultants have a wide scope of knowledge, skills and competence to handle various aspects of management, cutting across supervisory, leadership and management-related executive development workshops. Among others, the staff is made up of:

Dr Alvert N Ng’andu (PhD, MSc, BEng, FEIZ, REng)
Having worked in higher education for most of his working life, Alvert has vast experience in higher education administration, teaching and research with the associated human resources, strategic and financial management skills. He has experience in engineering consultancy projects and has been lead consultant in a significant number of these. He combines higher education experience with corporate governance proficiency as a result of having effectively served on a number of boards of directors as chairman of the board and chairman of various
board committees. He brings a unique and rich blend of academic, research, governance and educational administration experience to the consultancy environment.

Dr. Egret C Lengwe (DBA, MSc, FCCA, FZICA, Dip. Ac, IDPM)
He is a Lead Consultant and has vast experience in strategic planning and analysis, financial management, project management, accounting and auditing, strategic development and financial planning, training of trainers, training needs assessment, course design and compilations of training manuals. Having worked in the office of the Auditor General for more than 12 years, he accumulated vast experience in both the public and private sectors including parastatal organisations. He has conducted a number of training workshops in financial management, project management, monitoring and evaluation, fraud, forensic audits and investigation, corruption and risk management, strategic planning, marketing, project proposals, corporate governance, interpretation of financial statements, etc.

Mr. Kani Kane Zimba (MBA, ACMA, AZICA, CFC, ACSA)
Kani has vast experience in management at senior level with overall direction and supervision of the Centre’s technical staff. Expert in strategic management and planning, marketing, Kani brings wide experience in business management and how to grow the business. His experience at higher levels of management makes him an all-weather player in consultancy.

Mr Rabbie Mukuma ((Phd – student), MSc, FCCA, ACIMA, AMCT, FZICA)
Rabbie is the ZCAS Head of the ACCA Programme and has vast experience in Treasury Management, Risk and Financial Management, and Investment Strategies. He brings his expertise in a number of business related areas that would make an organization to succeed.

Mr. Kenny Chabala (MBA, ACCA, AZICA)
Kenny is the ZCAS Head of the ZICA and FIA Programmes and has vast experience in accounting and audit-related matters. He brings to the table his expertise from the private sector and lecturing experience in business-related subjects.

Mrs. Serah Beza Mbewe (MSc, BSc Computer Science)
Serah is the Senior ICT Consultant who keeps up with the latest technologies that are aimed at helping organisations function effectively and efficiently using ICTs. She has had international exposure as well as academic experience. She also has a strong research background in Internet technologies, database technologies, programming and computing in general.

Mr. Simon Mfune (MSc (Management Information Systems))
Simon is a lecturer in Information and Communication Technology and has vast experience in teaching spanning over 30 years. He has particular interest in eBusiness, management information systems as well as information systems development and application of Intelligent Knowledge Based Systems.

Kwesi Atta Sakyi (BA (Econs), Cert. Edu, Dip (Bus. Admin), NDP, MPA (summa cum laude), DBA))
Kwesi Atta Sakyi is a Zambian-based Ghanaian-born Principal Lecturer at the Zambia Centre for Accountancy Studies based in Lusaka. He has had more than four decades of teaching experience in secondary schools and colleges in Ghana, Nigeria, and Zambia. He taught Economics and Business Management at the International School of Lusaka for almost seven years. He has also been lecturing off and on for seven years at the Zambia Centre for Accountancy Studies to undergraduate and graduate students in Strategic Management, Managing and Leading People across Borders, Foundations of Scholarship, Business Communications, among others. He supervises many students for their dissertations. Dr Sakyi has a BA (Hons) degree in Economics and Geography from the University of Ghana, NDP and MPA (Distinction) from UNISA, and a DBA from California Creek University. Dr Sakyi has published two poetry books and has many draft articles online at Academia.edu and Ghanaweb.com. In July 2015, he was made a member of the Oxford Round Table and he presented a paper at Oxford entitled, ‘Early Childhood Education-Penetrating the Impenetrable Issues’.

Douglas Rolls (BA (Econ), MBF, LLB, LLM, PhD Candidate)
Has a wealth of banking experience in various areas of banking, including lending, treasury management, administration, capital market operations and bank internal audit. He has also had experience of support services relating to Cash-In-Transit (CIT) and cash management services. Additionally, he has over 5 years teaching experience in the field of law with a bias towards, but not limited to, commercial law subjects.

Janis Nduli (MBA; DipA; DipM)
Is a professional marketer with several years of experience in the education, food retail, mining and retail banking sectors. Janis also has 9 years lecturing experience in business and management courses including costing, strategy and marketing. She has worked on assignments in the Research and Consultancy function at ZCAS since 2010.

Derrick Kalunga (FCCA, FZICA, MBA)
Did finance and administration accounting work at one of the major mining companies before joining higher education institutions as a lecturer. Derrick is a lecturer in Financial and Cost Accounting. He also provides research project supervision to students doing their degree courses.

Mr. Kapasa G Mweshi (MSc MCIPS, MZIPS)
Mr. Mweshi is a procurement specialist with a background of many years of experience in procurement-related issues. He has worked in the private sector (Konkola Copper Mines), procuring both services and goods from local and international markets. He also has experience in lecturing on both professional and academic programmes.

Mr. Boyd Longwe (MA, MZIM)
Boyd is a Lecturer in Marketing. He has several years of experience in various aspects of marketing management i.e. managing renowned brands such as Surf, Key, Stork, OMO etc. at Unilever Zambia. Boyd has taught in various business schools such as NIEC, ZIBCT, Northrise University. He has also undertaken successful In-house Corporate training and consultancy projects in Swaziland and South Africa. Boyd is currently studying towards a PhD in Marketing with the University of Zambia (UNZA).

Velenasi Zulu Kangwa (ACCA, GZICA)
Velenasi is a lecturer of Financial Accounting and Reporting with 11 years of learners and participants management. Velenasi keeps up with latest updates in financial reporting requirements aimed at providing an organization’s stakeholders with relevant and more useful information that enhances their decision making. She has a strong and methodical approach to enhance understanding of participants.

Dr. Chiyaba Njovu (BSc, MSc Computing, PhD Computer Science, PGCE – Teaching Competency)
Having worked in higher education institutions in Zambia and the UK for nearly 20 years, Chiyaba has vast experience in higher education research, teaching and quality assurance procedures. He has experience in database consultancy and database applications development, having worked on a number of these in the UK and Zambia. Chiyaba has a lot of experience in higher education collaborations and outsourced teaching, having served in this role for nearly 10 years at the University of Greenwich in London. Chiyaba therefore brings to the team a lot of experience in collaborative working and partnership building with enriched teaching, research and consultancy backgrounds.

Mr. David T. Musona (MA (Econ.), BA)
David Musona holds a Master’s degree in Economics and is a certified trainer of trainers and is also certified by MicroSave and International Training Centre – ILO as a service provider (trainer and consultant) in Microfinance. His work experience spans over a period of more than twenty years. His work experience includes work in the transport, development banking and international development industries. Among the positions held include as a capacity development adviser at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Zambia mission. He has vast experience as a consultant including working as a consultant with USAID, DFID, SIDA, World Bank and UNDP-funded projects. Apart from Zambia, Mr. Musona has undertaken consultancy assignments in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Swaziland, Malawi, Mozambique and Nigeria. Mr. Musona is presently a lecturer in Economics at the Zambia Centre for Accountancy Studies.

Sidney Kawimbe (MBA, AZIBFS)
Is a Lecturer in Finance and Programme Coordinator for the Bachelor of Arts in Financial Services (BAFS) and Bachelor of Accounting and Finance (BAF) programmes. Currently a Doctorate of Business Administration finalist (Thesis stage), he holds a Master’s Degree of Business Administration (MBA), Associate of Banking and Financial Services (ZIBFS) and Diploma in Financial Services IFS (UK) and Diploma in Accounting (ZICA)

Mr. Jonathan Esau Zulu (MSC, BSC, CISCO Trainer)
Lecturer in ICT programmes with a strong technical background who possess self-discipline and the ability to work with minimum supervision. Has strong knowledge of relational database design and implementation, database experience including Oracle, MS SQL Server, and MySql. Has extensive practical knowledge of Internet and computer networking solutions, including wired and wireless networking skills. Also has experience in Business Statistics and Applied Mathematical skills.

Gwebente Mudenda (MBA, BBA, DipM, MCIM, FZIM)
A graduate of the prestigious Copperbelt University, he joined the joined the training sector in 1993 as lecturer in Business Studies. He has risen through rank and file in training institutions and is currently serving as Head of Programmes for business courses at Zambia Centre for Accountancy Studies

Dr. Ezekiel S. Bob Jere (BA, MSc, PhD, MIAP)
A Member of the British Institute of Analysts and Programmers, Ezekiel is a seasoned lecturer in many fields, having been in the industry for over thirty years. Ezekiel has a multiplicity of skills competencies ranging from Cost Accounting, to Analysis and Design of Information Systems. His hold a PhD in Cyber Security and Information Management. He is currently the Head of Programmes of ICT / A Llevel Programmes.
