    1. INTRODUCTION

The Master of Science in Information Technology (MIT) programme is designed to meet the growing demand for an advanced qualification in Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) in Zambia. The programme is intended for the following groups of people:

  1. ICT graduates who hold an undergraduate degree in an ICT related field.

  2. Holders of approved post graduate degree in an ICT related field.

The Master of Science in Information Technology (MIT) programme is a ZCAS University (ZCAS – U) programme which is offered and administered by ZCAS. Students will register at ZCAS and the teaching and examination of the programme will also take place at ZCAS. In administering the programme, ZCAS will observe the ZCAS – U quality assurance standards including the appointment of qualified lecturers to teach the courses.

    1. RATIONALE

The embracement of ICTs the world over have been seen to be an engine of developmental growth leading to economic growth in many countries. In Zambia, ICTs have not been embraced at a fast enough rate to lead to obvious economic growth. This has in part been attributed to the lack of well trained personnel in the ICT field. Personnel with advanced skills in ICTs have particularly been few, thus having little impact on the sector. ZCAS_U has identified this gap in knowledge and the development of the Master of Science in Information Technology (MIT) programme is meant to address this gap. The emphasis by government on the need for Zambians to exploit ICTs for the development of the country requires highly trained personnel – the Master of Science in Information Technology (MIT) programme will greatly contribute to this goal. The programme will churn out ICT personnel who would be ready to undertake the challenge of developing the country using ICTs. ZCAS – U presents an opportunity for Zambia to produce advanced graduates who are prepared to face any of the developmental challenges the country is facing using ICTs as an engine of economic development.
